vehicle when trading, the lowest of the three values, (2)
Retail, what a dealer might ask for a vehicle, the highest of
the three values. I price all of my personal vehicles using
this category as I expect to sell them at top dollar due to
market desire and the excellent condition of the vehicle, (3)
Private Party Value, what you as an individual might price
your vehicle at, the middle value.
When (1) the overall condition is determined, (2) calculate
the amount in dollars needed to recondition the vehicle to
bring it up to a good service standard and meet all safety
and emission standards as required by law. There are a
multitude of parts and pieces and a multitude of areas to
consider when determining a value. Brakes, tires, cold A/C,
battery, glass, paint, upholstery, carpet, just to name a few.
Typically a good car appraisal sheet would have over 75
pieces to look at, evaluate, and price for reconditioning. A
good dealer will generally have about a 125 point inspection
program in the service department, as does the
manufacturer for certifying a used vehicle to be resold with a
"factory warranty".
An honest car appraisal has to be complete, thorough,
accurate, and exacting. A windshield could cost over a
thousand dollars on some vehicles. ABS brake repairs and
replacement could run into the hundreds, even thousands.
Tires are $300.00 a set to $300.00 apiece, depending on the
vehicle.
The point is that in order to determine a True Market Value
one must have the tools, CAR APPRAISAL TIPS, and know
